Space Tactics

A categorization of how important paying attention to space is to success in combat for a particular game.

None

Space has almost no effect on combat at all. Maybe space isn’t modeled to an extent where it would matter, or space is modeled but the combat engine just ignores space entirely.

Low

Space has a marginal effect on combat. Maybe characters can only engage in melee combat from specific positions, but the player can arrange the party once and then forget about it. Spatial awareness may occasionally come up but in general the player doesn’t need to worry about it.

Medium

Space has a regular, but not terribly complex effect on combat. The player will need to move their characters around in almost every combat encounter just to get in attack range, or utilize choke points to limit the number of enemies that can engage their characters.

High

Space has a critical effect on combat. The player will need a chess-like amount of manouvering and planning ahead to avoid extreme loss of resources or losing the combat.
